The educational objective of the field of mechanical engineering is to develop students' attributes and abilities for designing, analyzing, producing, and operating mechanical systems that form the foundation of all industries. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Konkuk University (KU) provides hands-on education and research programs focused on future fields and tailored to changing supply and demand for personnel in the cutting-edge, new growth engine industry. Such industry has become a central focus of government efforts in light of its increasing importance to the enhancement of the country's level of competitiveness and the citizens’ welfare.

High added value fields of mechanical engineering include biofluid, next generation automobiles, robotics/mechatronics, and micro/nano systems. Our department's objective is to foster students' ability to research the theoretical and experimental application and integration into such fields.
