Education Goals
Improve practical skills
With the global trend toward economic blocs, the establishment of the Northeast Asian Economic Community is also expected to become a reality. As a result, the demand for human resources with practical skills that can be used in the field of dynamic integration field is expected to increase rapidly. Therefore, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature strengthens students' basic language skills by enhancing language courses taught by native speakers and activating various language exchange programs. Furthermore, we ensure diversity in language-related subjects so that students can make effective use of business or multidisciplinary majors.
Training Chinese Language Teachers
Primary and secondary Chinese education still falls far short of social needs and demands, and Chinese language education for adults is also quite inadequate. This need is expected to grow as the demand for Chinese language education increases. We offer a Chinese language teaching program that meets these social and educational needs. Its basic and diverse courses are designed to strengthen the expertise of Chinese teachers and improve their quality. Among liberal arts majors, this program offers the greatest number of opportunities to select and produce students for teaching Certification. To prepare for the current and future demand for a second foreign language, we offer many Chinese language teaching courses and related courses.
Training Experts in Translating Classical and Modern Literature
The foundation of any cultural exchange between Korea and China, including Korean literature, is the exchange of diverse literature from both countries. The interesting translations of Chinese literature that have recently appeared in Korea have only just begun. The translation of texts related to Chinese literature and culture is of paramount importance as the revitalization of cultural exchanges can lay the foundation for economic and political exchanges. We offer a variety of courses to cultivate students' translation skills in the undergraduate program and further develop them in the graduate program and research institute.
Cultivating East Asian Cross-cultural Talent
The ability to seek amicable accommodation and rational coexistence in a conflicted international environment is becoming increasingly important. Especially in the 21st century, cultural exchanges are necessary and play a practical role in international relations. It is also necessary to be able to plan for today’s society and culture based on the historical and cultural relations between Korea and China. The department strengthens culture-related teaching that uses and applies China's vast cultural resources on the basis of learning about them.
